Mission, Vision & Strategic Alignment

Mission

To restore and strengthen the third leg of Hawai‘i’s economy, the industrial base, by building a collaborative advanced manufacturing ecosystem that supports workforce development, local manufacturers, and long-term economic resilience, rooted in stewardship, and community benefit.

Near Star

By 2028, the Pa‘ia Sugar Mill is becoming Hawai‘i’s first Advanced Manufacturing Village; a thriving ecosystem of Maui-based manufacturers, innovators, and workforce partners. Historic buildings are alive with production, prototyping, and hands-on training. At its core is a center of innovation specializing in advanced materials, precision manufacturing, and extreme-environment prototyping, supporting space technologies, durability-focused building materials, and ocean sports. Here, innovative entrepreneurs thrive and provide well paid local jobs and careers in a circular, island-based economy, enabling all to make it on Maui.

Far Star

By 2035, Maui is nationally recognized as the birthplace of Advanced Manufacturing Villages in Hawaii; where indigenous values, community stewardship, and advanced manufacturing intersect. These place-based hubs strengthen economic resilience, support the re-shoring of strategic industries, and create generational opportunity through locally grounded manufacturing.

Values

MAMA is built on the values of stewardship, collaboration, sustainability, and community-first decision-making. We are working closely with manufacturers, educators, workforce partners, and public agencies to ensure this effort is grounded, inclusive, and aligned with Maui’s long-term needs.

Integrity & Stewardship

Acting transparently and with kuleana for community benefit.

Innovation & Resilience

Leveraging technology to solve local and global challenges.

Collaboration

Building cross-sector alliances that uplift local families.

Circularity

Designing systems that regenerate both people and place.

Community First

Every action must strengthen Maui’s people and heritage.

A Message from Nicole

Nicole David-19.jpeg

This work is deeply personal to me. I have lived on Maui since 2004 and raised my family here. Like many local parents, I want my children—and future generations—to have meaningful career opportunities and the option to remain on Maui if they choose. I believe we have a responsibility, or kuleana, to care for our land, our people, and our economic future with intention and integrity.

Nicole David, Executive Director
